What is а multi-layer parquet?

The multi-layer parquet consists of more than three layers (typically 7–9 or more). It features:

  • Top layer: real wood (e.g., oak, beech, ash), 4–6 mm thick;

  • Bottom layers: cross‑laminated plywood for enhanced stability (usually 7–9 layers or more, depending on the plywood thickness).

This structure makes it far more resistant to temperature and humidity fluctuations. It’s suitable for high‑traffic areas and even commercial use. Though more expensive, it offers greater durability and stability. It can be sanded 3–5 times depending on the thickness of the top layer. It is also excellent for underfloor heating thanks to its multi‑layer cross structure.

Can parquet be installed in a room with underfloor heating?

Although once considered a challenge, today, thanks to modern technology and appropriate structural choices, the multilayer parquet is recognized as one of the most reliable and efficient flooring options for heated floors. The advantages include:

  • Good thermal conductivity: Engineered parquet transmits heat effectively—even at greater thickness—thanks to birch plywood and quality installation;

  • Low risk of deformation: The cross‑layered structure resists shrinking, expanding, and warping;

  • Long‑term stability: Resistant to temperature and humidity changes—a common issue for solid parquet;

  • Authentic appearance: The real-wood top layer gives the look and feel of solid oak but with superior technical performance.

What should be considered when installing multilayer parquet over underfloor heating?

Key considerations include:

    • Subfloor temperature should not exceed 27–28 °C;

    • Maintain ambient humidity between 40–60 %;

    • Turn the heating system on gradually to avoid temperature spikes;

    • The subfloor must be completely dry, level, and clean;

    • Installation should be carried out by qualified professionals.

What are the possible parquet laying patterns?

The layout of parquet or planks significantly influences the visual impact, interior style, and sense of space. Options include:

  • Straight “floorboard style”: boards laid parallel with staggered lengths (600–2000/2400 mm), visually elongating the space;

  • Herringbone: short boards (700–1000 mm), arranged perpendicularly for a dynamic, classic pattern;

  • Hungarian pattern / Chevron: similar to herringbone but with 45° cut ends; ideal for larger spaces, creating a luxurious, dynamic effect;

  • Diagonal laying: boards laid parallel at an angle to the room’s walls, visually widening the room;

  • Decorative motifs: boards arranged in square or rectangular blocks alternating horizontally and vertically—requires very precise installation and gives a unique vintage-style look.

What are the subfloor requirements for parquet installation?

A proper subfloor is essential for durability and appearance:

  • Well‑leveled: within 2 mm over 2 linear meters, unevenness may cause creaking, gaps, or installation issues;

  • Dry: residual moisture in cement screed should be below 2%. High humidity causes warping and distortion;

  • Clean and dust‑free: free from dust, glue, plaster, etc., as contaminants reduce adhesion and may compromise the finish;

  • Thermally stable: particularly with underfloor heating, the subfloor should not exceed 27 °C. Heating should be started incrementally before installation.

How to maintain the parquet?

Maintenance recommendations include:

  • Keep indoor humidity between 40–60 % and temperature between 15–30 °C;

  • Regularly vacuum up abrasive materials (e.g., salt, sand, glass) to prevent surface damage;

  • Clean with a damp cloth and appropriate cleaner for oiled or lacquered parquet; avoid unsuitable products that may damage the finish;

  • Wipe up any spills immediately;

  • Use furniture pads to protect from scratches when moving furniture.

What is the warranty on your products?

Forest Trade Ltd. guarantees the quality of materials and installation work for 2 years. The warranty does not cover defects resulting from:

a) Unsuitable environmental conditions:

  • Temperature outside 15–30 °C;

  • Humidity outside 40–60 %;

  • Sharp temperature changes;

  • Poor ventilation or seasonal use.

b) Improper use:

  • Covering the flooring with plastic or corrugated board for extended periods during other finishing works;

  • Performing wet work after installation (stairs, cladding, railings, etc.);

  • Damage caused by abrasives (salt, sand, glass), heavy objects, furniture movement (with or without wheels), high heel impacts, scratching, or other non‑normal use;

  • Flooding, earthquakes, subsidence, and other force majeure events;

  • Installing solid parquet over underfloor heating without manufacturer’s knowledge;

  • Installing engineered parquet over underfloor heating when water temperature exceeds 35 °C;

  • Failure to follow usage instructions.

When is it necessary to renovate parquet/plank flooring?

Refinishing is done by removing the top layer to refresh the surface or remove defects. It’s not based on a fixed schedule but on the condition of the floor:

  • When visible scratches appear or the surface becomes worn or dull;

  • Under normal use, sanding is typically needed every 10–15 years, depending on wear and finish;

  • In case of flooding—refinishing is mandatory once the floor is dry and moisture levels have stabilized.
